Get to know us
On 31st July 2017, a collective of committed and socially conscious religious advocates, joined by dedicated lay advocates, came together to establish "LAHRI" (Legal Aid and Humanitarian Relief Initiatives) in the National Capital Region of Delhi. This initiative received tremendous encouragement, support, and sponsorship from esteemed organisations such as the Delhi Jesuit Society (Jesuits), the North Province of Presentation Sisters (PBVM), the Delhi Province of Holy Family Sisters (CHF), and the Islamic Studies Association (ISA). Their generous backing played a crucial role in the success of our endeavour. Our primary objective is to provide free and competent legal services to the marginalised and underprivileged, while also promoting legal awareness among students and disadvantaged individuals.
At LAHRI, we handle various cases, including family disputes, accident victims, domestic violence, rape victims, bail applications for those in judicial custody, and criminal matters. We actively collaborate with NGOs such as the Dalit Christian Movement, AMRAT, Deepshikha, and V. CARE to organize legal literacy programs in Delhi, ensuring that legal knowledge reaches those who need it most.
Our work encompasses taking up deserving cases, particularly those related to women, marital issues, juveniles, and individuals in judicial custody. We also address labour-related concerns, conduct comprehensive legal literacy programs for the general public, raise legal awareness among school students, provide vital legal aid to domestic workers and migrant workers in Delhi, support national causes for justice, and offer valuable legislative assistance.
At LAHRI, our unwavering commitment lies in upholding the principles of justice and advocating for the rights of the marginalized. We firmly believe that legal support should be accessible to all, regardless of their socio-economic background. Through our dedicated efforts, we strive to create a more equitable and just society for everyone.
Lahri is a volunteer-led organization that focuses on litigation, legal literacy, and collaboration. We represent the underprivileged and tackle issues like domestic violence, labor exploitation, and human trafficking, conducting legal literacy camps with NGOs. Lahri has been working to improve the legal system for the underserved for over 6 years.
